There is no industry standard definition for a major gift. The only thing that matters is your definition of a major gift. It will be different for each organization based on their size, budget, staff, history, gift acceptance policies, etc.

A major gift is any significant gift made to your organization. Most organizations have thresholds that gifts must meet before they qualify as “major.” Your gift acceptance policy must decide on the dividing line that differentiates gifts as special. Often it is based on the significance to or impact on your organization.
